Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point release (TrP) and Myofascial Release Therapy (MRT) is a form of soft tissue therapy used to address localized areas of muscle tension and discomfort. Trigger points are often described as “knots” or “taut bands” within muscle tissue that can be painful when compressed or manipulated. This technique aims to alleviate pain, improve muscle function, and enhance overall mobility. The chiropractor uses their fingers, thumbs, or specialized tools to apply direct pressure to the trigger point. The pressure may vary from light to deep, depending on the patient's comfort level and the chiropractor's assessment. After applying pressure, the therapist may guide the patient through specific stretching or movement exercises to further release the trigger point and restore muscle function.

The goals of trigger point release are as follows:

- Pain relief: Trigger point release aims to reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort associated with the trigger point.

- Improved Range of Motion: By releasing the tension in the muscle, this technique can enhance joint mobility and restore a full range of motion.

- Muscle Function: Trigger point release can help muscles return to their normal function, reducing weakness and stiffness.

- Relaxation: Many individuals find trigger point release to be relaxing and stress-relieving.
